About the Creator
Elliot Havenstraw, based in Wellington, New Zealand, is the founder and writer behind VillageEducationIndia. With over a decade of experience in international education development, Elliot has worked alongside rural schools across South Asia, documenting what works — and what doesn’t. Though not from India, his deep respect for its educational heritage and commitment to grassroots change drove him to create this platform. He spends hours speaking with teachers, visiting villages virtually and in person, and translating their insights into actionable content for a global audience.
Why This Website Exists
This site was born from a simple question: Why are so many brilliant educators in India’s villages overlooked by mainstream conversations about education? After witnessing firsthand how innovation thrives even in the most under-resourced classrooms, Elliot realized that the stories, strategies, and struggles of rural India needed a dedicated platform — not for pity, but for partnership. VillageEducationIndia exists to connect those who care with those who are doing the work, turning awareness into action.
